Sherry Grubbs
An IEW Certified Instructor, Mrs. Grubbs believes it is vital to help students find their voices as authors and build confidence and skill in this essential art. She works with students with various "neurospicy" learning needs, including ADHD, dyslexia, gifted, and bilingual students.
Inspired by Andrew Pudewa’s sessions at a 2001 homeschool convention, she immediately found value in the Structure and Style method. In 2002, she attended one of Mr. Pudewa’s live TWSS seminars to complete her teacher training and continued utilizing IEW with her children throughout their homeschooling journey. For five years, she taught IEW for a local co-op in Fort Wayne.
Currently, Sherry offers online IEW classes and private tutoring using Zoom, IEW Gradebook, and Google Classroom.
Writing and speaking extensively in their chosen professions, her two oldest children are now college graduates, while two others attend Purdue Fort Wayne, and her youngest is soon to be a senior in high school. Her four grandchildren have now fallen in love with stories, much to her delight. When not at her computer, Mrs. Grubbs loves to read, spend time in the sunshine, and eat chocolate!
About four book discussions, IEW's Fix It! Grammar, and vocabulary are integrated into her classes, so only spelling needs to be added for IEW Level A and B students. A unique feature is the quarterly book discussions using Center for Lit’s Teaching the Classics method. These discussions emphasize thinking skills while gently introducing literary analysis to prepare students for the TRIAC argumentative essays of IEW’s Unit 9. Additionally, these discussions strategically provide an extra week for students to complete some writing assignments.
