On June 26, IEW is hosting the 2021 Online Writing Conference. We invite you to attend! Developed with teachers, administrators, tutors, parents, and students in mind, this free event will span the day, offering educational workshops, including live-streamed student classes! Whether you are the parent of a preschooler, the teacher of a tenth grade class, or a tutor working with dyslexic students, there will be sessions that will help you in those endeavors. Here is the schedule of sessions for the day:
10:00 AM CT: Cultivating Language Arts: Preschool through High School
Teachers and parents alike desire to cultivate within their students the ability to listen and read well, speak and write clearly, and think and debate effectively. With that goal in mind, Andrew Pudewa will explore various environments and activities which will accelerate the development of these language skills, beginning with the youngest students and continuing into the high school years.
11:30 AM CT: IEW’s Structure and Style: What is it all about?
In this workshop Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker will guide you through four possible ways to teach your students with Structure and Style. Whether you decide to create your own lessons, use a theme-based book, watch a video course with your student, or watch the new Structure and Style for Students and then live-teach the lessons yourself, this workshop presents recommendations for the tools you need to implement Structure and Style.
1:00 PM CT: Introductory Student Workshop
Join Andrew Pudewa and a classroom of students for a live-streamed writing workshop! Students around the globe can log in and enjoy learning right along with the students in the studio. This workshop is geared towards students who haven’t had Structure and Style experience. Teachers will also enjoy watching Andrew present the material and will glean ideas to implement in their own classrooms. This workshop is recommended for students reading at a third grade level or higher.
3:30 PM CT: Advanced Student Workshop
If your students have already experienced learning to write using IEW’s Structure and Style, then this advanced writing workshop will be especially enjoyable for them! Join a classroom of students for this live-streamed session that will expand your students’ knowledge and writing skills. Note: Any student may attend this workshop online; however, this session assumes some knowledge of creating key word outlines and implementing stylistic techniques.
All of the sessions will be live streamed on YouTube. To register for this learning opportunity, register at this link. We look forward to having you participate!
For last year’s conference, its inaugural year, more than six thousand people registered from all over the globe, and the recording has since been viewed more than fifteen thousand times. With participants from more than twenty-five countries represented in the current registration numbers, this will truly be an international event that everyone will enjoy.
Here are just a few of the comments we received from last year’s attendees:
I just need to let you all know how my reluctant writer responded to the two-hour writing class during the live conference. Not only was she engaged the entire time, but this eight-year-old wrote her entire key word outline on her own, (thankful she could be messy) wrote her own checklist, and dictated the rest to me. She created an amazing story, full of becauses and even a who/which clause, and then after the class paid me with a kiss to type for her, added pictures and a title page, printed, created a cover and binding, and THEN proceeded to take a tri-fold display board we have and turned it into a kids' library in the corner of our family room, added her new story, and is planning to create more. We have all been directed to visit this new library. – Karen J.
The writing conference just wrapped up, and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who worked on it. I particularly enjoyed watching Mr. Pudewa work with the kids as it gave me a sense of how the flow of a lesson would go! – Mandy B.
My three reluctant writers all liked the writing class, and my eight-year-old, who can’t even read yet, begged me to let her do more. She enjoyed the activities and loved Mr. Pudewa! I’m so glad that I insisted that my children participate in this one-day event so that now I have their enthusiasm instead of resistance beginning the actual class. – Survey Respondent
I liked the variety. It was great to start with the theory behind the program. That caught my interest immediately because I agreed with the truths spoken by Mr. Pudewa. Then it was wonderful to see the teaching in action and be inspired by his approach. – Survey Respondent
