Ask Andrew Anything: Podcast Episode 250

CCL. It’s the Roman numeral for 250, and this week the Arts of Language Podcast launches its 250th show, podcast Episode 250. This milestone marks another round of “Ask Andrew Anything.” In the latest AAA, customers as well as some of IEW’s very own customer service team members ask Andrew a variety of questions. The queries cover a multitude of subjects, and there’s at least a nugget or two of wisdom for all sorts of listeners. The questions covered are as follows:

  • What advice would you give someone who’s starting to use IEW’s materials this year?
  • Is there a significant difference when working with left-brained versus right-brained students?
  • I’ve noticed that when my students insert new stylistic techniques (e.g., the -ly adverb, who/which clause, etc.), the result sometimes feels forced and contrived. Is this normal?
  • How do you get kids, especially boys, excited about writing?
  • Is there a way we can incorporate handwriting attention and skills into our Structure and Style writing exercises, or should attention to handwriting accuracy be separated from the act of composition?
  • How do you transition from imitation to original writing?

The customer service team fired a few “lightning round” questions that are detailed below.

  • For what meal do you, Andrew, never cook with garlic?
  • Who’s your favorite kid?
  • What’s the best decision you ever made?
  • What’s your favorite Christmas carol?
  • What’s your favorite city to talk in?
  • What is your favorite airport?
  • What’s your favorite cuisine you’ve tried in your travels?
  • Who cuts your hair?
  • What was your first car?
  • What do you like to do on your vacations?
  • What is the origin of the name Pudewa?

Whether you are brand new to IEW or have been enjoying the journey for a while, you will find helpful advice, so be sure you check it out!
