Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker pick up where they left off in the last podcast episode as they continue addressing questions in podcast Episode 260 that were raised by attendees of the online conference “Success in Teaching Writing: A Special Education Writing Conference from IEW.” During their conversation they address the following questions:
- What tools do you recommend to help students become more independent? I’m looking for ways to have them do it themselves and still be able to write.
- For low muscle tone kiddos and for those who have weak fine motor skills, how do you teach them handwriting skills? How do you help them strengthen the skills they need?
- How can I set realistic expectations and goals for students with dyslexia?
- Is it really okay to take your time with this program for an older child? She can only do so much writing, and she begins to become really frustrated. I just don’t want her to feel behind her peers.
- How do I help my ten-year-old? He already knows phonics, but he skips words and sounds when reading and gets frustrated when I correct him. When I have him slow down, he can get the words.
