Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker recently welcomed Susan Barton into the studio. Susan is the developer of the Barton Reading and Spelling System. An Orton-Gillingham-based program of instruction, it teaches individuals who are dyslexic how to read and spell. Susan has spent the last twenty years tirelessly assisting parents and educators, providing 
them with information about dyslexia and how to appropriately address it.
During the podcast, Susan shares her extensive knowledge about dyslexia and dyslexia remediation. She advises that an effective strategy towards remediation is two-pronged. First, provide appropriate accommodations so that a student can demonstrate what he or she learns. Ideally this would be a temporary situation. Second, teach the student using an appropriate educational intervention to close the reading and spelling gap.
