Earlier this year Andrew and Julie began a series of podcast episodes that focus on helping people feel more confident about homeschooling their students. Naming the series “Homeschool 101,” the two have released recordings roughly every ten episodes, with the most recent segment appearing as podcast Episode 275.
In this week’s episode, 286, they examine what constitutes homeschooling and mention some of the reasons that more and more people are considering homeschooling these days. Addressing those who are trying to make that decision, Andrew shares four points that he suggests people think about. They are as follows:
-
Just commit.
-
Set realistic expectations.
-
Focus on the big “rocks”: culture, curriculum, care, and community.
-
Don’t worry about socialization. (It’s the biggest myth about homeschooling.)
To hear Andrew develop these points, listen to the podcast. Additionally, at the end of the episode, Julie shares several links to free curriculum and IEW’s suggested book list to provide some practical support for people who are ready to commit, whether it be as full-time homeschoolers or as afterschool support for their children. It’s all homeschooling either way. To learn more about how easy it truly is to begin homeschooling your children, be sure you tune in to the episode.
