Last Week
On Monday of last week, Andrew Pudewa and Nathan King kicked off the 2021 event. Describing why Units 1 and 2 are so important, Andrew emphasized that in order for our students’ writing, or for that matter even for our own, to improve, we must separate the complexity: what to write from how to write. And thus begins the adventure. If you didn’t get a chance to watch the video live, here’s a link to the conversation. Be sure you check it out.
This Week
During our great adventure this week, our second week of the Great TWSS Adventure, travelers will focus on how to teach the various stylistic techniques included in the TWSS. The assignment for the week includes the following:
-
View Video 2: Introducing Stylistic Techniques (82 minutes).
-
Read pages 169‒188 in your Seminar Workbook.
-
Complete the Units 1 and 2 Practicum: “Infrasound and Elephants” paragraph (pages 26‒29).
Week 2 is unique in that it doesn’t focus on a particular unit. Rather, it addresses how to teach the various stylistic techniques within the writing framework. The techniques comprise dress-ups, sentence openers, decorations, triple extensions, and advanced dress-ups. Watching the video, you will learn how and when to introduce these techniques, as well as how to utilize “EZ+1” so that students can feel successful as they develop their writing skills.
If you haven’t yet signed up for this collaborative learning opportunity, it’s not too late! Check out details about the event at this link, and sign up for the weekly reminders here. When you receive the weekly reminders, be sure to use the link in the email to enter the weekly drawing for a chance to win a $50 IEW gift certificate. Additionally, join in the conversation at IEW’s Facebook event page. It’s a great place for you to ask questions, share your ideas, and connect with other educators adventuring alongside you.
So we hope to “see” you at noon CST next Monday for our Facebook Live session, where Andrew will introduce next week’s learning objective, answer questions, and announce the drawing winner. Do you have a question you’d like Andrew to address? Simply email your question to adventure@IEW.com.
Welcome to the Great TWSS Adventure! We’re glad to have you along for the journey!
