What do Michael Phelps, Terry Bradshaw, and Michael Jordan have in common? In this episode Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker discuss Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Although students with ADHD face some challenges, there are also advantages! As a mother to two sons diagnosed with ADHD, Julie shares helpful research, advice, and personal experiences.
Students with ADHD often display symptoms such as difficulty sustaining attention, struggling to follow through with instructions, squirming while seated, and more. As Julie notes, she compensated for some of this by shortening the lessons for each of her sons to twenty minutes. The short lessons gave him a goal; he knew it would end. He could exert his will over the fidgeting and remain focused. Then he could move on to the next thing, which would likely be a few minutes to run outside!
Tune in to this episode to hear Andrew and Julie provide encouragement and offer insight on implementing strategies to help students challenged by ADHD.
