If you ask pretty much any mother of both boys and girls, she will tell you that there are some notable differences in her boys’ behavior versus her girls’. She may comment that she notices her sons are a bundle of perpetual noise and motion, while her daughters tend towards more quiet pursuits such as coloring. Keeping in mind that these behaviors are generalizations, not absolutes, Andrew shares some research behind the reason for these differences in this week’s podcast, Episode 311.

There are several differences: sensory perception, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system activation, brain hemispheric differences, stress response systems, and more. Boys’ responses differ from girls’ responses. While the research itself is fascinating, Andrew describes ways to capitalize on the differences to help your students maximize their learning. It’s a fascinating topic that offers much fodder for thought. Be sure to check it out!
