One of the students in Andrew Pudewa’s Level B Structure and Style for Students class is Gabbi. She was a member of the class for two years. Recently we reached out to Gabbi, sister to Grant and Josh and daughter of Karen, to learn about her impressions of her time spent learning from Andrew. We hope you enjoy hearing about her time in class.
IEW: How would you describe your ability to write before the class?
Gabbi: I enjoyed creative writing a little, but I wasn’t confident doing it so I didn’t feel like writing much.
IEW: What is the greatest change in your writing since taking the class?
Gabbi: My handwriting improved, and I know where to start when I need to write a paper. I gained much more confidence and now really enjoy writing creative stories.
IEW: Were you nervous about being filmed while in class?
Gabbi: Yes! You couldn’t sneeze, or cough, or touch your hair, or fidget! It was hard!!
IEW: What was your favorite part of the class?
Gabbi: I really enjoyed the creative writing. I loved making up my own stories and being able to use quality adjectives and -ly adverbs to dress them up.
IEW: What is your favorite writing unit and why?
Gabbi: Creative (Units 3, 5, and 7). It’s my favorite type of writing because I can make up anything I like and design my story exactly how I want it to be.
IEW: Has the class helped your confidence?
Gabbi: Yes, I can write a paper with little help, and that makes me feel pretty good.
IEW: Has it helped you in any other ways?
Gabbi: Yes. My other schoolwork became easier to accomplish and answer. Writing assignments in other subjects were much easier to complete.
IEW: If you had to describe Mr. Pudewa in one word, what would that be and why?
Gabbi: Funny! His jokes are the best!
IEW: If you could give advice to other students about taking the SSS class, what would you say?
Gabbi: I would tell them to take good notes, work on your paper a little each day so it doesn’t become overwhelming, and keep all of your papers in a book so you can read them all at the end of the year.
IEW: Is there a fun or funny memory from the class you want to share?
Gabbi: There were so many funny jokes; I can’t remember all of them, but I know I laughed every class. Mr. Pudewa made it very fun.
We are so glad Gabbi enjoyed her time learning to write from Mr. Pudewa. We agree with you, Gabbi. Andrew is really funny! If you would like to view some video of Andrew sharing his jokes, be sure to check out IEW’s YouTube channel. And if you would like to learn more about Structure and Style for Students, click here.
